Youth Worker (30 hrs per week)

The Migrant Resource Centre wishes to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced Youth Worker to the Settlement team at the Migrant Resource Centre. The Settlement program provides services to youths from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds who are aged 12 - 25.

The Youth worker will be working with colleges, schools and the community to liaise with refugee students their teachers, parents, sporting groups, welfare agencies and other government departments. Duties will include:

  1. Increase social participation, community development and understanding of Australian life skills, cultural, social and legal norms for youth.
  2. Appreciation and understanding of the developmental needs of youths and a proven capacity to work effectively with them and the adults with whom they come into contact, using appropriate problem solving techniques.
  3. To develop a program that is sensitive to the needs of the client group.
  4. To monitor the effectiveness of the program through consultation and evaluation.
  5. Build links and partnerships for youth with mainstream agencies.
  6. Provide group activities to assist settlement outcomes for youth.
  7. Identify and provide appropriate assistance to youth experiencing difficulties at school and/or home which may put them at risk, including case management.
  8. Report writing.

Salary is in accordance with the Community Services Award, Level 5.1 pro rata.
