CaLD Safe from the Start

The Tasmanian Community Fund has provided funding for the Phoenix Centre to develop a CALD version of the Salvation Army’s award winning Safe from the Start program.  A training program and resource package will be developed in conjunction with Dr Angela Spinney of Swinburne University.  A reference group is being established to investigate and evaluate assessment and intervention tools, including activities and therapeutic play, to assist parents, specialist and non-specialist children workers, and carers to hold therapeutic conversations with young people, aged 0 – 8 years, who have been exposed to violence or trauma.

A training course for CALD children workers on the effects of domestic violence and trauma on young children, including the use of the intervention tools being developed will also be offered.

If you would like more information about the CALD Safe from the Start Project, or the Reference Group, please contact the Phoenix Centre; kmillar@mrchobart.org.au or 03 6234 9138.
