Tasmanian Transcultural Mental Health Network (TTMHN)
This project aims to build on the work accomplished by the Tasmanian Transcultural Mental Health Network (TTMHN) during 2009-2010. The main objectives of the TTMHN for the 2010-2013 funding period is to provide a coordinated network in which a wide variety of stakeholders can work in a collaborative manner to progress common concerns across the transcultural mental health sector in Tasmania.
Three main focuses of the Network are:
1. To increase the awareness of issues in mental health care influenced by cultural difference; to provide information about relevant research and evidence based practices in the area of transcultural mental health and allow expertise to be shared among Tasmanian service providers.
2. To provide information to Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) community groups with the intent of raising mental health literacy and decreasing stigma around mental illness.
3. To progress the CALD Mental Health Action Plan.
The TTMHN one day forum was was held at the Launceston Tram Sheds on 27 August, 2010, it was a successful opportunity for the sharing of knowledge and ideas from leaders in the field of transcultural mental health in Tasmania. The key note speaker was Greg Turner, who outlined the development of the Queensland Transcultural Mental Health Centre - From Toe Hold to Free Hold.
