Settlement FAQ

Many of the questions that we get asked are:

How do I sponsor a relative to come to Hobart?

The Settlement team will complete the appropriate forms and provide information about the appointment with our Migration Agent.

Our family is having money problems can you help?

The Settlement team can introduce the family to our Life Skills workshops where we teach participants about money matters and provide them with budgeting skills.

How do I get a learners permit so that I can learn to drive a car?

Firstly you will need to read the Road Rules Booklet provided by Service Tasmania or from the website: www.thelaw.tas.gov.au/index.w3p . You sit for the test at Service Tasmania, and don’t forget to ask for an interpreter if you need one. If you are struggling to understand the road rules then please contact Adult Migrant English Services at TAFE Tasmania www.tafe.tas.edu.au/courses who run a “First Gear” course that will take you through the road rules booklet and sit the test.

I want to drive a car but can’t afford the lessons?

The Settlement team will explain about their TOP GEAR driving program.

I would like my children to get involved in a sport or club can you help?

The Hobart Police and Citizens Youth Club can offer a wide selection of sports to choose from. Our Youth worker can assist you or you can visit the PCYC WEB site for more information www.police.tas.gov.au/community/pcyc
